8 State Hurricane Kate was rescued from a rooftop 9 days after Hurricane Katrina. She was first photographed with LA-SPCA ID# 0001-1442. I met her at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Louisiana on September 17, 2005. She may have been rescued near the 17th Street Canal breach, or she may have come from Plaquemines Parish, south of New Orleans, where they run range cattle and the end of the road was washed into the sea. Her post-Katrina story is told in the book "8 State Hurricane Kate: The Journey and Legacy of a Katrina Cattle Dog". But what is her pre-Katrina story? Where did she come from? Is anyone still wondering what became of her? Do you know this dog? www.8StateKate.net - created at http://animoto.com

  • Thank you. I discovered Chris' music when I was making this video. I like him a lot too.

  • I read your book and your desperation to know where she came from and her history came thru as it does in this wonderful video. I hope for your sake that someday this mystery will be cleared up for you. However, I think her very best days were spent basking your love and the good home that you provided for her--her life began when she met you. Thank you for your kindness and sharing her story will us.

  • Thank you. I hope that anyone who still wonders about her will learn the rest of her story. :-)

  • This is a wonderful story. Thank you for what you have done for this special doggy. You're a very special person. Plus, I love the song you chose to use for this story. Made me look up the singer - Chris Pierce. I'm a fan of him now too.

  • Thank you. I have corresponded with Shannon Stevens of New Hope and have a wonderful book about a cattle dog that was hand made by Lise Hawkos, who use to live down there and volunteer for New Hope.

  • Thank you. :-)

  • I'm in the process of reading your book, and it is very inspirational! I'm so very glad that there are people such as you in this world to help care for Cattle Dogs! I volunteer for New Hope Cattle Dogs and I find as much joy as you have in helping these special animals! I hope you find the information you seek about Kate!

  • Very moving. My cattledog, Deacon Blues, sends his best.
