i am putting this video up because one day we WILL get it right, and on that day, this video and the countless others like it will be HILARIOUS!

(not enough vocal volume, way too many guitar slips, the improvisation-heavy parts go kind of screwy with uncertainty, etc)

((here i will confess that the guitar slips are entirely related to the psychological impact of the tone being as god-awful terrible as it was that day; still searching for that vagabond unemployed philanthropist sound technician, btw))

otherwise, the structure is pretty solid! the middle part with the solo like thing and the breakdown is most definitely here to stay!

needs:

1. fuzzy chugging "underwater funk" bass
2. tinkling electric piano sound
3. tons more reverb on the guitar
4. tons more reverb on the vocals
5. better guitar tone! (maybe i need to do some pedal-shopping)

  • I made a Demo Tape for me with cover and all that stuff. Uhm, yeah. It has some of your recordings, some demos and all that stuff. Did I mention the cover? So I can hear this greatness on my iPod while walking down the street. Yeah.

  • oh man! what did you use for a cover? you should see the new top image on our myspace; it's what i have for the cover of all of our album demos in my iPhone

now that i have adjusted the action on my guitar (much lower) and put lighter strings (more flexible), the chords changes on this song are much easier; also the two effects pedals needed to complete it are in an aeroplane flying over the pacific ocean right now

in other words, don't get too comfortable with this version of the song!

  • this is rock & roll

  • thank you for confirming!

i was seriously wondering for a couple of days there

  • Your stuff keeps getting more rockin and more interesting, but as a guitarist you need to tighten your shit up, and not just on the improv stuff. I'm talking rhythmically, here.

  • replying to this to let you know that with the delay pedal disengaged, i am able to concentrate 100% on playing this song perfectly!

please anticipate the next video ^.~)=b!

  • Good news. Don't worry about defensiveness. I know how it is.

Bass would help A LOT. The heart of any band's rhythm, especially one like yours.

  • Actually I think it's the same cover you used some time ago on your Myspace.

  • Hell yeah, that's the same cover I use. Well, the version I'm using has some little different colors, but the design is the same. I posted a picture in your MySpace comments (you'll recognize). I think I'm gonna change it with the new picture you uploaded.

Also: Looking forward to the new version of the song.

  • you know, they shouldn't put a character limit on my comments on my own video!

uhhh yeah. as you might detect, the possibility of a decent performance of this song is something which weights somewhat heavily on my psychology right this very minute.

it's just, every time we play it, something goes wrong early on (the guitar tone is off to a confidence-killing degree, etc) and i just give up.

maybe what we need to do is just play it live already. or at least decide on the lengths of the bridges

  • if i appear defensive in my comment, trust me, i'm not trying to defend anything! i am as disgusted as you -- MORE disgusted, even! -- by the unwanted arrhythmias of this song. i mean, the idea of the song is that it's SUPPOSED to sound "weird", and KIND OF "wrong". just not THIS wrong. :-/

you know what it really needs -- a bass.

    T-T

it's like, i want to make a lot of songs like this; it's just that they're so much harder than the bullshit poppy songs . . . :(
