dont you mean d dorian is the same as the cmajor? and dorian although dorian has the b3 its not the b3 that makes it different from any other minor scale its the M6

Dark Star was one of the most freeflowing dead tune, other than drums, a jam, or space, it was their most highly improvised piece. i have a 55minute version for instance. live improv is what made this tune so special

I guess I'm not smoking the same stuff as these other folks leaving comments, because I throw on "Live Dead" and start jamming with Jerry and the gang piece of cake. Dark Star is an awesome song, and thanks JDarks for helping us to understand it better, but it's more fun to just try and jam with The Dead...in my humble opinion. And I also think that the Dead sound good in the studio, but you get a better feeling live.
