BB Gun, Threat Locks Down Waubonsie Valley High School [HD]

Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora was on lock down Wednesday morning while police investigated a "potential threat," according to the school's Web site.

School officials told NBC Chicago that a BB gun was found in a locker on campus.

As of 10:00 a.m., principal Kristine Marchiando said in a note to parents that the freshman building was no longer on lock down and students were returning to class. However, classes would be shortened for the day.

Earlier, a note from Marchiando on the school's web site said, "I want to stress this measure is a safety precaution only and all of our students and staff are safe."

Aurora police said there was a threat involving guns reported at the school, but there was no shooting.

Parents reportedly received a voice mail message from Marchiando Tuesday night saying a scribbled note was found and that Aurora police had been contacted. She said authorities searched the school, found no credible threat and assured parents appropriate action would be taken against the student or students responsible.

Police remained at the school at 9:30 a.m.
