Vindaloo Against Violence asked Melburnians to protest violence by dining at their local Indian restaurant on 24 February 2010, in response to a spate of attacks around the city. This innovative form of protest was the initiative of digital media professional Mia Northrop, who is a graduate of Melbourne University.
The idea proved highly successful, with over 16,000 people registering their participation at more than 400 Indian restaurants Australia-wide. A Google Map created to show the distribution of the protest includes participants in every capital city, regional Australia and as far away as Tajikistan.
This video presents a small snapshot of the event. It was recorded at Indya Bistro in Carlton, an inner-northern suburb of Melbourne.
