Listen minute 4:08 . He breaks his voice (again). And i think he is specialist in this...
-
He sang with material instead of technique. Now the material is gone, and nothing is left.
-
Cracking or not - he's doing his best (and earning CASH)
intense rendition. One of the most.
Loved it!

...he is (was) at the end of his vocal power, ...oh oh..
-
he pisses me off

While i'm sure that the general youtube commenting population are all expert technicians, I hope you all realize that the man performs all around the world all the damn time. I'm pretty sure that if his technique was that big of a deal, someone far more qualified than any of you would have done something about it. so quit your bitchin and just enjoy the song. he's not singing to be critiqued by nobody's like you and me.

I can't deny that R.Villazon has a nice voice, but he forced acute register and sounds unnatural. Please listen version of Alain Vanzo and you will definitely hear the difference.
-
Of course there are better version without cracking, but i admire Villazon because he is one of the very few opera singers who do not play the roles they sing but who are the characters. And that is for me what damaged his voice in that way
-
No,No ...Nyet..!

2:20 listen to his awful attack of the note from below...he almost does a full arpeggio
Villazon's cracking has nothing to do with interpretation...it has to do with lack of technique. Although, I'm not a great fan of his, I will concede that he always performs in a very musical manner.

One does not have to sing better than he does to see the damage he is inflicting to his instrument. He has a beautiful voice and sings with incomparable passion but he overpushes his vocal chords, at the end that will kill his voice.
