  • @jzoom45 i watched it in google video a couple months ago

  • Anglo Thought and Anglo Mind, just stop thinking and be a slave to Capitalism. That is the mind of Richard Rorty.

  • Pragmatist don't care about Idealism eventhough Pragmatism is an ideal in it-self.

  • Rorty stated 'to stop thinking in terms of...' and lists dichotomies. A pragmatist looks at a half empty cup and asks - it it enough liquid for my needs, and can I utilise it.

A pragmatist doesn't ask how many sips until the glass becomes empty, whether this is good or bad, whether taste resides in the liquid or the tong, should it be given to a thirstier person, etc etc etc etc.

  • where can i get the whole interview

  • being a relavist is a trait of pragmatism. So is beliving in 6 billion different realities or perspectives.

  • @marleyman14

if anything, Rorty is more akin to a conceptual relatvist. But conceptual relatvism is not inconsistent with external realism. The former does not entail the negation of the latter; hence there is no apparent "paradox."

  • @marleyman14 the mere calling someone a relativist is not enough to discredit what they have to say. There are many arguments for the idea that there are an infinite amount of conceptual schemes. Rorty never denies an area in which experience is done; but he does deny the notion that there is one single description which is True.Just like how there is no universal math which is True, there is no ultimately True description of the universe as well.

  • @keitaro202 Yes but in essence if you read his books you will find he is a relatavist ( truth is contained within the mind ) which basically means that if he is allowing reality than he is allowing 6 Billion different realities for every human as we all veiw the world differntly. He also thinks that we cannot understand alternative conceptual schemes. But the paradox is that to know a differnce is to a accknowledge a mutually intelligable area.
