Part of my final English project of the year for Pride & Prejudice.
Special thanks to Melissa Mahoney and Katie Abell for helping Nicole and I with this. I forgot to add that in the actual video...
Dance recreated from "Becoming Jane," the scene at Lady Gresham's Ball.
Music: "The Hole in the Wall" by Henry Purcell, composed in 1695.

  • Well since this isn't the 1698 version (where it first shows up in the dancing master), can I ask where you got the steps/music for this reconstruction?

  • @unicornpearlz I based the dance on a scene from the movie "Becoming Jane," and got the song off its soundtrack. I took some liberty with the steps because you can't see everything in the movie scene and I only had four people to work with. It was only a high school English project so it didn't have to be completely historically accurate. You can watch the scene here, by pasting this after the YouTube homepage URL: watch?v=U4TPSI-5ZpE&feature=related

  • That was amazing!! I really think that! You guys did a great job.

@kefaad, lets not be picky here :)). That was a student project and look, they even had the costumes.

    I really enjoyed watching.

  • @Serbiana011 I only put this on youtube as a backup in case my teacher couldn't watch the disc I burned, so I really like hearing that other people actually enjoyed it. Thanks so much! :]

  • great idea for a project! i think is extraordinary your final result, and i can imagine how much planning, and training it took to have it; great, i congratulate all four of you for this....a next dance, maybe? :-) bravo!

  • @valizadintren Thanks so much! If I can find a simple enough dance that works with only four dancers and is still fun and if I can find a prettier Regency-like location to film maybe we'll do one then. :]

  • I love this. You got it exactly right! Pretty cool English project, I'd say!

  • @mimmar3891 How did you get into that? It sounds fascinating !

  • Great job! I know you said you just posted this for your teacher, but I liked it too! I've been going to English country dances for two years now and you guys have more poise than a lot of people who have been doing it for a long time. You should check out if your area has a Jane Austen dance society because it's a lot of fun. I hope you got an A on the project. :)

  • This is pretty cool! There's quite a bit of foot work to be remembered in such dances - I don't know how they managed to know all the dances back then!
