Fulton Sheen on the path to sainthood

Fulton Sheen is on his way to being the first American-born beatified male. He died in 1979 after a lifetime of work in the Church. He was archbishop of New York and Rochester, and is often referred to as the first televangelist for his vibrant career in the media.

Now, the cause for his beatification is under review by the Vatican.

The congregation is currently studying the material. If they come to a decree of heroic virtue, if that should happen then the next part of the process would be the actual examination for beatification.

Monsignor Richard Soseman was part of the preliminary process of gathering information for the cause of Sheens beatification and is from his diocese in Illinois. He says many families in town still remember Fulton Sheen and his legacy.

An old woman that I knew told me that she used to go to mass early in the morning so she could receive holy communion, but then she would return to high mass at St Patricks. She said a lot of them would just go to hear bishop sheen preach."

Fulton Sheen was probably best known for his public persona. He spent 20 years as the voice of a Catholic radio program and later moved on to television winning the 1952 Emmy award for most outstanding television personality.

It is impossible to say when the road to Fulton Sheens beatification will take a turn for sainthood. For the time being his legacy will continue to resonate in Illinois and the United States.

I love how the internet has brought Fulton Sheen into the homes of millions. His message is as fresh as it was 60 years ago as people are basically facing the same problems and issues today.

True, saying great things does not make a saint, but doing good does and this man did alot of good, as for him being a saint,I dont know, I know he was a good man because Ive read and heared so much about him and the good he did but, if it is Gods wil for him to be canonized, he will time will tell...

A truly amazing man. He was responsible for converting Bella Dodd to Catholicism. She was a former Communist agent who recruited over 1000 Communists to infiltrate Catholic seminaries.Lenin knew he couldn't destroy the church from the outside in so he went about it from the inside out. Do a Google search for Dodd and Archbishop Sheen. It's a real eye opener.

Essentially my post was supposed to go along the lines of "I am praying that you, too, will see what a great gift Fulton Sheen was. Praise the Lord for this great man. Amen!" Fulton Sheen is one of my heroes and a true saint of our times.
