Fiberglass would indeed be lighter...When a firefighter goes down it often requires creativity and determination to get them out safely. This technique is definatly creative. If the regulator is damaged his regulator would obviously need to be removed and replaced but in a low air situation choice 1 would be to transfill his tank, choice 2 would be to connect his buddy breather and last change the regulator. Imagine trying to fit that regulator in a zero vis situation.

Those air systems are outdated at my firehouse we use the fiberglass Scott scba system
