I blame the horrible playing on the concert band. In our band our skill level goes from concert, red, blue. I am in blue band and I tell you that we never play that bad when its just us. I'll post a blue band song that we have for contest this year. We got 5th at State a few years back

Oh and we and at the pauses in the song we play the hi hat cymbals so youd hear a schh sound 1 2 3 4 times
