this video was created for the anti smoking film contest that go's by the title of "Smoking Stinks Video Contest" it was shot during the big old snow storm that struck the Portland area earlier this year... or was it lat last year well aether way it was shot during that storm. had the storm not struck we would probably not have been able to create an entry at all since my partner for this project Israel Kamerman is always busy aether with plays or with some other time consuming events. and if the storm had been any shorter it would have posed a problem since izzy would surely have had to return to his busy schedule and this would have prevented the film from being completed in time to be entered. It would seam almost as if we had the gods on our side when we created this short depressing yet grand piece of art work. all the filming was done with a small camcorder that was created by panasonic, the camcorder go's by the number of hdc sx5
not a bad little bugger by no means but it does lack some manual control. this of course has posed problems in the area of artistic control. . their is a surprising amount of CG or computer generated content in this short film. the words on the grave stone are computer generated since vandalizing a grave stone was out of the question. i used the awesome open source program gimp to create those. their is a digital beam. this beam appears in the last shot when the camera is going up. you know past the cealing beam and then up to the grave stone that was digital. i used the awesome open source program blender to create the cg elements for that. i also used blender to apply the words to the grave stone since it was not a static shot i need to do some motion capture being a poor person that i am i had to use the program called voodoo camera tracker. it works rather well for a program that you do not have to pay for if you are not using it for commercial purposes, which we are of course only using for the creation on non commercial videos since we can not create commercial videos because we have no way to sell them. the film was shot in eagle creek oregon a small town near estacada oregon. and estacada is near sandy if you happen to know where any of thoes towns are you probably live in Oregon. or a nearby state such as Idaho. if you have read this far you probably realize that most of this is nothing more then random blab. and yes you are correct this is indeed random talk. if you have read this far you are probably quite bored if this is the case you should check out some of our other videos that just happen to be on youtube. these videos include "Not that Know" a grand film created for another contest. this contest was of course aimed at teens in oregon. and then "powers" is quite funny and well worth the watch. you could also look at "Indiana nerd" a short film created for fun. oh you should go back to the top of this long description and consider voting for out video at the "smoking stinks video contest voting page" we could really use all the votes we can get. and of course if we win the contest we will post more awesome videos on youtube. of course we will post more videos on youtube any way. lots more but with the video camera we might possibly win we will upload videos that have some really cool effects such as changing focus and depth of field on the camera would mean things would look even more awesome then they already do with the camera we have. yes the small and depressing camera we already have. it uses small DVDs to record its data. yes thats right not DV tapes but dvd's of course it does record HD video at 1080i but its lens is so small and it low light function is really bad. the new camera that we could win has much better function in all of the low light situations that Oregonians tend to live in. the clouds as you know make things rather dim around here and the rain makes things even dimmer. i wounder if all this writing will even show up on the video description ? looks like it barely will

I know the contest is over, but this was still a great film. I think it could be very effective. It made me even more deadset against smoking than I already was. And since it had that effect on me, I'm sure it might make someone who is thinking about taking up smoking think twice before doing so.

well it certainly is nice to hear that the message was effective :-)
it can be hard to tell how well a message will came across sometimes when you are the person that created the film and thus have seen it 200 times or more and already have an idea in your head of what it is supposed to express, thus your comment has been most informative... and I"m so glad the video worked exactly as it was intended :- D
