Can't believe this wasn't on YouTube!

Possibly my favourite pop-type song ever, this song was taken from Hüsker Dü's seminal 1984 album, Zen Arcade, a wonderful, emotional, gritty and honest tour-de-force from start to finish.

A concept album about a young kid that runs away from home, this song represents the boy's awakening to the state of the world and the people who have left it this way. There is no simpler or concise critique than that of a youngster and this shines through in Newest Industry.

  • 25 years after Zen Arcade came out, I'm just discovering how awesome this is...

  • It's a truly magnificent and emotional rollercoaster of an album :)

  • thanks for putting this up... a great song after the immortal Pink turns to blue.

maybe kids will learn what outstanding music means listening to this.

  • Ever hear/see the version of Pink Turns to Blue on the Camden Palace bootleg? Ethereal.

  • awesome never heard this before. its kool!!

  • Go forth, sir and immerse yourself in the album! You won't be the same for it in a very good way!

  • my biggest disappointment, I didn't discover these guys til I was in my twenties. Better late than never!

  • @dner75 thats what i would have said years ago as well. but i recommend you to be more open minded : techno/electro is a vast universe where you find crap ( as everywhere else ) but also absolutely briliant music.

and before you draw your conclusions : i saw HD live in frankfurt in 87, have all their lps, got on everybodys nerves with my HD-tapes back in the 80es and think that they are epic.

  • Green Day is not even fit to cover this song. And if Blink 82 ever attempts a Husker cover, just shoot me now (though I doubt those dilettantes know about Husker Du). I really feel bad for kids today...shitty, misogynistic hip-hop and watered-down "punk". Then there's techno [blechmech... sorry, I just threw up in my mouth].

  • @JacobWeinberg

Shoulda' seen it live.. :( It was insane.

  • evergreen......day %)

  • Green Day had wet dreams over this song

  • i totaly agree

  • this gonna be a cosy evening with the du on the stereo in full mode.
