Idk I started buying applegate meat and organic meat and I never went back to regular. Say what you want about it not mattering if cows are fed grass or not but it friggin tastes a whole lot better and its a lot better for you. Just out of taste I would continue to buy from applegate and organic meat companies.
Some do give their cows antibiotics, but not all of them do, because they use crop rotation as a way of allowing the cows to constantly eat new grass so that the bacteria won't have time to grow.
@chwisch87 When we feed cattle corn we also have to feed some sort of ruffage like hay or silage which maintains their digestive tract. I don't know of anyone who gives their cattle antibiotics just for eating corn. Pasture cattle are fed antibiotics through mineral supplements just like feedlot cattle. Cattle live outdoors in the elements so they are more likely to get sick with out a little bit of antibiotics. Not enough to show up in meat
Cattle are naturaly able to digest any kind of plant material, the stalk, leaves, seed, roots, so claming that cattle aren't as healthy when they eat corn is untrue. I have a feedlot with steers, they are fed shelled corn, corn silage, chopped hay, and a protein supplement the PERFECT cattle feed
People clame that cattle do better on grass not corn because its more natural. Corn is a grass and the grain is the seed. It is the same if the cow ate the head off of grass thats grain. Cattle do better when they have a ruffage (hay, silage) along with grain. When cattle are fed grain mabling occurs in the muscle which naturaly allows the meat to be tender. With grass fed beef you have to beat the meat to tenderize it and season the heck out of it
i guess it would be better if you have em on good high quality grass, we had grass fed cow this year, leaner but tough, dont think it was as good as grain fed, but i think good high quality grasses would make a difference
