  • Beware, indeed! No wonder why I couldn't activate my Windows 7 Ultimate installation yesterday, and I'm going to make sure to delete that partition this morning, after having spent many hours overnight researching this problem with activation. Hopefully, I'll be able to get my money back, but am not going to hold my breath about this, figuring it'll be a real struggle to get it, if able to get it at all.

  • @mikecorbeil Where did you buy it? Amazon gave me a full refund and then I used that to purchase a genuine key.

  • @jezzmoto I didn't buy it at a store, but from a guy who does work for the municipal bus transit system in this part of Quebec. He had sold packages to many of the bus drivers and it's one of them that I speak with a lot who told me about this other guy buying in bulk quantities and being, therefore, able to sell at lower cost. I doubt he'll be able to refund everyone he sold these packages to; it'd leave him with a serious enough loss to reimburse us all. I'll be contacting him just the same.

  • @mikecorbeil Oh well best of luck to you.

  • The key expired two months after install, that is a.problem to me

  • haha that fucking sucks you should of just got it of pirate bay like i did ha

  • @BoBoAAr0N Maybe it karma having used Windows XP all these years ; )

  • i had xp pirated for 5 years no problems and now i have 7 for about 2 and again no problems

  • @jezzmoto I expect to need some, but it's better to speak with the guy, before becoming full of gloom. And what's worrying me more right now, though, is whether these fake W7U packages contain malware. It was installed on a partition next to my xp pro one, so it was visible and potentially damageable while I was logged into W7U. If there is malware in that and it affected the xp system, then this'll bother me more than the losing the money. Do you know anything about this malware part?

  • @jezzmoto Due to being too busy to install earlier and believing to have made a legitimate purchase, I wasn't worried about activation when installing months later. Valid keys remain valid rather indefinitely; unless, the product is stolen and the real owner calls in the theft, after which the vendor, MS in this case, can cancel the key, rendering it unusable. I'm not sure if that's exactly how it works, but think it is, or can be, anyway. I hadn't heard of this kind of situation, before.

  • @jezzmoto In some forums about this rip-off some people say it's possible to get a complimentary copy of Win 7 Ultimate from Microsoft for $10, but it surely wouldn't work for me, since the package was not purchased in a store, online or street kind, but from a local who thought he was getting very good deals by buying in bulk. Others who had purchased this from him were able to activate their installations and I thought that it meant legitimate SW, but see otherwise, now.

  • @jezzmoto He left me his name and phone number, so after what I learned since yesterday, I'll try to reach him. I'd really like the reimbursement, but won't hold my breath and will only hope to get the money back. He's not the kind of person to intentionally rob people and I wouldn't like to file any legal complaints against him. He's middle-aged and did not intend to steal; got suckered, like we did. He surely didn't make the fakes. If he did, then I'd fail a complaint with the law.

  • @NOSboy2012 What does a complimentary replacement cost? I wonder. $200 instead of $350 (Canadian $)? I could not afford that and extremely few people would accept to pay a total cost of $500 or more even for Win 7 Ultimate.

  • @jezzmoto It's possibly what happened to me. I bought the package a little over two months ago and only commenced working on installing the x64 disk yesterday. It installed, but the activation key was blocked, and when I tried a second time, the response was that the key's invalid. That happened yesterday evening and I've been researching this problem ever since. It's now 6:21am EST in Canada. I'll try to get the $ back, but ...? End of W7 Ultim. for me. I can't pay for it twice.
