If a body meet a body commin' thought the rye! The Catcher in the Rye is about a young man named Holden Caulfield who is telling the story of some madman stuff that happened to him around last Christmas just before he got pretty run-down and had to go out here to take it easy. Holden's character connects with everyone who reads his story. It's the little things he says that make you care for him an take an interest in him. He makes you want him to succeed throughout the story. As the story goes on, Holden's tries to hold on to his innocence, but at the same time tries to grow up so fast. He truly dose not know what he wants. And when Holden runs away from his Private School to take on a fabulous adventure to New York City, who knows what will happen to him? Maybe he'll go to a bar, or maybe he'll watch a couple having sex? Hell, he might even have breakfast with some nuns? Or maybe he'll wear a red hunting hat to remind him of his dead brother Allie? Or maybe he'll sneak into his kid sister's room in the middle of the night just to talk to her? Holden truly wants his innocence, but he also wants to grow up. The people he meets throughout the story, and the events that happen to him makes you care about Holden. But do keep in mind, there are two Holden's in this story. There's the Holden who the story is happening to, and the Holden who is telling the story. When you look at the Holden who the story is happening to, you see a kid at his lowest. A kid with no hope to succeed. But when you look at the Holden who is telling the story, you see a man with a head on his shoulders, a man with wisdom beyond his years. This book is Pop Culture personified. There is a little Holden inside all of us. This book isn't about the story of events that happened to him. It isn't about him running away from his school, or going to a hotel, or trying to get sex, or underage drinking. It's about trying to reach out when no ones there to listen. It's about growing up when your not ready, or a little scared. It's about unconditional love for your family and friends. It's about the greatness of youth. It's funny how when you're young all you want to do is grow up, but when your old you wish for the exact opposite. Holden's wishes for the exact opposite. However you look at if, Holden Caulfield is one character that will always be remembered, he really will!
