Japan is a forested country with about 70% of its land comprised of bountiful woodland. The Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute is the only research organization in Japan that comprehensively researches forests in order to know, protect, and utilize this asset. The institute is currently developing a bio-ethanol production technology based on simultaneous glycosylation fermentation using alkali pretreatments and cellulose-producing microorganisms. As a raw material for bio-ethanol, woody biomass doesn't compete with current food-based ones. People are increasingly turning to alternative materials including wood refuse and used paper to produce bio-ethanol fuel. The institute is currently developing the equipment to enable production of bio-ethanol from woody biomass.

  • @abengoabio also what people don't seem to understand is a lot of this is made from waste by product, they used to bury rice hulls by the ton before they found out they could re use them for fuel processes and also making particle boards for the building industry.the 3rd?being bio char for enriching the soils for more stable growth for foods.

as for food cost?lower the min wage so companies can make a profit again by selling cheaper to the public

  • @abengoabio if bioethanol is causing higher food prices, I would really like to see someone eat oak or rapeseed

  • Bioethanol is a real alternative fuel for the future: Biofuels are under attack. The claim Bioethanol is the main cause of increased food prices is just one of the many false statements being spread to the general public. We have decided to stand up and contest these falsities with supported evidence.

  • This is not a good idea, we are suppose to be making better alternative fuel sources. Sure Ethanol may be cleaner but this is will simply cause more deforestation.

  • just technology,

  • Catch being Japan imports nearly all of it's wood products.

Much of which comes from ecologically sensitive areas like Austrailia and the Tropical Rainforrests.
