My first attempt at rapping. It started as a poem for school so keep that in mind...haha.
I just found this 11th grade English paper in some old boxes and thought it could make a super gangta transcendentalism rap. Haha.
I wrote this when I was 16 in class after our teacher wanted us to sum up what we'd learned that day in class about Emerson and Thoreau. While everyone else wrote some stupid little paragraph....I spit out this:
Lyrics:
Well, Transcendentalism yeah it's a long word
And it's got some new ideas you may never have heard.
Well it started a long, long time ago
With two guys named Emerson and Thoreau.
In Concord, Massachusetts about 1836
There was a group of people that needed a new fix.
Unitarian Church that was the big hit in town
But these guys weren't picking up what the Unitarians were putting down.
So they took their old ideas and put 'em on a shelf
And created their own concept about nature and self.
Ask what the ideas of Transcendentalism are.
Well they're definitely different and bizarre.
But if you listen to me closely and with real intent
These concepts will be as solid as thick cement.
Many believe man is born with Adam's transgression
But the Transcendentalists took this into question.
They said man is born great and man is born fine
Because we're all from God and that makes us divine.
"We can never have enough nature." Said Thoreau.
Truly find ourselves? Nature we must go.
All forms of life share one soul
And our spirits are all connected as a whole.
It's best to be self-reliant and forget our goods.
Not waste time even if we could.
Intuition of man can be a guide
And when there's social conformity you must divide.
There's an innate understanding that's with us from birth
And a sense of direction for knowing the earth.
These are the concepts of Emerson and Thoreau.
Essential to life and good to know.
okay okay, not bad
