sudo rm -frv / from within Mac OS X Leopard.

For the uninitiated, this command removes OS X system files and will force a reinstall of the operating system. After restarting the system, there is enough of the OS to begin the boot process, but Leopard will stop itself at a certain point and will go into infinite loop of rebooting the MacBook.

Music from Tom's Hardware Guide video #3. Original composition by Bert Topelt.

  • on Linux does it get as far as to wipe the harddrive?

  • Yes. It also goes deleted everything in Mac OS 10.4.

  • For those that 'don't get it', I've updated the video notes to better explain what's happening. Peace.

  • The purpose of these rm -rf videos on youtube is just to document what it actually looks like. Noone does this as part of a reinstall procedure. It's a waste of time ;)

  • yep, thats because OS X and Linux both are based off UNIX.
