What I remember so vividly was if the driver went to fast at the intersection where all the switches were the trolleys would fall off the lights on the bus would go off and the driver had to pull over and put his gloves on and go to the rear of the bus and put the Troilus back on the line

@ruth414 Did you know the #12 Roosevelt route had these Chicago CTA trolley buses as well as the #85 Central and other Chicago Transit Authority routes?

They're sooo quiet.
i wish we could make our city busses into trolly busses

Because of coorprate douchbags at GM in the 1950's!
they used to have trolly's in indianapolis before the 50's

How about Grand and Chicago?

I have only been to IRM once (Labor Day 2006) and I rode this Marmon Harrington ETB while I was there. I rode a few trolleybuses in Chicago but I never saw a bus being "wyed" like it was here.

@stakeee
Most likely economics. These systems are coming back now due to the high cost of fuel. None have returned yet for Chicago

this is really interesting! How big was the system? did it go down-town or just stay in the suburbs? We call these buses 'trolleybuses'. What do you call thm?

When trolleys were running in the city, it was the largest system in the US. Later on, only a few of these routes had trolley busses on them using the existing overhead wiring. They did not go into the downtown area or the suburbs. I used to ride the trolley busses on Montrose avenue, which I think originated at Broadway and ran out to Central Avenue. Yes, we also referred to these vehicles as "Trolley Busses".
