Bhumibol Adulyadej was born at the Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the United States on 5 December 1927. His name, Bhumibol Adulyadej, means "Strength of the Land, Incomparable Power"
Bhumibol came to Thailand in 1928, after Prince Mahidol obtained a certificate in the Public Health programme at Harvard University.
He briefly attended Mater Dei school in Bangkok but in 1933 his mother took the family to Switzerland, where he continued his education at the École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande in Lausanne.
In 1935 his elder brother, Phra Ong Chao Ananda Mahidol, became King of Thailand, and elevated Bhumibol and his sister to Chao Fa status, the most senior class of the Thai princes and princesses. The family came to Thailand briefly in 1938 for Ananda Mahidol's coronation, but then returned to Switzerland.
On june 9, 1946 bhumibol most certainly murdered his brother who was currently crowned RAMA IX, and seized the thrown for himself becoming the King of Thailand

@bkkbound Yeah, Thailand could have become another 'Killing Field' with the stable influence of the Thai Monarch. A Cambodian friend whose family was wiped out told me that if only Cambodia had a king like the Thais, her family would still be alive.
Giving the choice between the corrupt politicians and the Monarch, I prefer to trust the latter. I can't help feeling that there is a conspiracy to bring the Thai Monarch into disrepute and there is no question who the culprit might be.

You can ask this question. Who could easily kill this popular Thai Maj. Gen. Khattiya Sawasdipol, the leader of the Red Thais, without the authorization from the Thai Prime Minister Abhisit who wowed to protect the Thai King? The killer of the General cannot be touched and still enjoys a noble life. The killer might have been secreately rewarded for killing the General who was critacal of the King.

Nice, but a litle unsophisticated, it is an elete group of theextended Royal entourage that control the Military, Thailand could quite easily have gone the way of Burma had the King not performed the act of being the unifying figure head.
Will History record his period of reign as being great? I thinks its unlikely, there have been too many brutal acts and repressive laws which no genuinely democratic country would tolerate, after he has gone many truths that have been hidden will come out
