The lock Rothensee is part of the Magdeburg Water Bridge and is located in Magdeburg at the Rothensee connection Canal (Rothenseer Verbindungskanal). This canal connects the Midland Canal (Mittellandkanal) with the Magdeburg harbor and the river Elbe.
In 2001 this lock replaces the boat lift Rothensee, which no longer meets the requirements of today's inland waterways.

It was one of the highest locks (about 18 meters) that I ever passed. Only the lock Hohenwarthe was higher (about 18,55 meters).
