Joel Denver host of "Future Hits '88," a Westwood One radio show. August 28, 1988 aircheck of "Eagle 106" WEGX 106.1 FM Philadelphia. This was either 8 or 9 a.m. Joel Denver was a jock on WFIL from 1975 to 1979 and was a neighbor of mine during most of that time. He lived on Vader Drive next to my friend. I remember he had a big head of hair as seen at 04:25. Once we were invited to his son's 2 or 3 year-old birthday party at his house. He hired a clown to entertain his son. Another time, he was irate at the trash collectors for not picking up his trash. So he canted his mailbox side-ways to convey his displeasure to them. Another time, I posted myself outside his house to see him as he left for work so I could request a song. I was 10 years old. I asked him if he could play 'Help" by the Beatles on his show that night. He was very nice and said he would. I listened intently to his show on my little transistor radio that night - 10pm to 2am I think. He didn't play it (that's okay, Joel, I have the record, he he). Eagle 106 was, of course, the old "wish" WWSH and other stations, too. It was owned by "Malrite Communications." Today, the Malrite Company, based in Cleveland, is no longer in broadcasting. It develops museums, including the innovative International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C.

  • i use to tape this show every week from 86-90

  • ahhhh yes Feature Hits with Joel Denver back in the early 90s :-)

  • I remember Joel Denver when he was CHR editor for many years at the now-defaulted "Radio & Records" trade magazine.

"Future Hits" was one of the shows that I used to listen to on the weekends along with "American Top 40".

Thanks for putting it up on YouTube.

  • Eagle 106 was the station I was listening to after WCAU went oldies back in 1987 (Then the station became WOGL). This one brings me back to my sophmore year at my High School.
