Fred Hampton (August 30, 1948 -- December 4, 1969) was an African-American activist and deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party (BPP). He was killed as he lay in bed in his apartment by a tactical unit of the Cook County, Illinois State's Attorney's Office (SAO), in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Hampton's death was chronicled in the 1971 documentary film The Murder of Fred Hampton, as well as an episode of the critically acclaimed documentary series Eyes on the Prize.
The Almighty Black P. Stone Nation (often abbreviated BPSN or BPS) is a Chicago-based street gang estimated to have more than 30,000 members. The gang was originally formed in the late 1950s as a civil rights organization called the "Blackstone Rangers." In later years, a quasi-Islamic faction of the gang emerged, naming themselves the "El Rukn tribe of the Moorish Science Temple of America" (or simply El Rukn). The Blackstone Rangers' founder and 'religious leader' is Abdullah-Malik (born Jeff Fort). The BPSN finances itself through a wide array of criminal activities and are part of the large Chicago gang alliance known as the People Nation.
The Black P. Stones originated, and is based, in the South Side of Chicago in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Their main rivals are the Bricks (GD), and to a lesser degree, the Black Disciples (BD).
Rivals include the entire Folk Nation alliance and white supremacist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and Aryan Brotherhood. Their allies are the Vice Lords, Latin Kings and other People Nation gangs, Black Separatist groups, Zulu Nation, the Five Percenters, and Los Zetas. There are 7 BPS branches in Chicago: Gangster Stones, Jet Black Stones, Rubinite Stones, Familia Stones,Corner Stones, and Black P. Stones. All these branches have many factions.
Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt (born September 13, 1947), also known as Geronimo ji-Jaga, is a former high ranking member of the Black Panther Party. He was targeted by the FBI program COINTELPRO, which aimed to "neutralize Pratt as an effective BPP functionary." Pratt was tried and convicted of the kidnap and murder of Caroline Olsen in 1972, and spent 27 years in prison, eight of which were in solitary confinement. Pratt was freed in 1997 when his conviction was vacated. He currently works as a human rights activist. Pratt is also notable as the godfather of the late rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur, a.k.a 2Pac.
John Huggins (February 11, 1945--January 17, 1969) was an American civil rights activist and leader in the Los Angeles chapter of the Black Panther Party.
Alprentice "Bunchy" Carter was an African American activist and former gang member who was killed on January 17, 1969. He is celebrated by his supporters as a martyr in the Black Power movement in the United States.
At a Black Student Union meeting at UCLA's Campbell Hall on January 17, 1969, Bunchy Carter and John Huggins, another BPP member, were heard making derogatory comments about Karenga, the founder of Us. Other versions mention a heated argument between Us members and Panther Elaine Brown. An altercation ensued during which Carter and Huggins were shot to death.
BPP members insisted that the event was a planned assassination, whereas Us members maintained it was a spontaneous event. Former BPP deputy minister of defense Geronimo Pratt, Carter's head of security at the time, has stated in recent years that rather than a conspiracy, the UCLA incident was a spontaneous shootout. The person who allegedly shot Carter and Huggins, Claude Hubert, was never found. Later, during the Church Committee hearings in 1975, evidence came to light that under the FBI's COINTELPRO actions, FBI agents had deliberately fanned flames of division and enmity between the BPP and Us. Death threats and humiliating cartoons created by the FBI were sent to each group, made to look as if they originated with the other group, with the explicit intention of inciting deadly violence and division.

@BurninRubba305 Right, the Black Panthers and the grossly illegal Conitelpro program had a lot to do with the Cold War! HA! Do you know, Einstien, that none of The Weatherman--who were terrorists--were ever convicted of their crimes, because the FBI and the Conitelpro program broke so many laws that prosecutors could not make a case against them?? Do you know who Fred Hampton was and what happened to him? You approve of murdering innocent Americans? Yes?
JosephCa64 7 months ago
@BurninRubba305 Had nothing to do with communism--it had to do with black men with guns. Oh, that scared whitey something awful. Right wingers love their guns, they'll pull their hair out if you dare try to have any level of gun control. We all know that. But, when black men took up guns in the 60s, when the Panthers did, well they sang a different tune, didn't they? The Conitelpro program broke every law in the book. They were murdering Nazis.

@BurninRubba305 He doesn't have a 'cult' following, people go and listen to him because they think issues he talks about are important, and how is he a nutbag? What is he an apologist for? If you don't like what he says, just say so.
