This was in local roads where the speed limit was only 50 MPH, so thats why I backed off the gas a bit after 1st gear.

Just doing some quick sprints and a normal drive at the end in a 2005 BMW X5 3.0i with a 5 Speed Automatic.

The 3.0i is quite gutless & you really need to rev them hard in order to feel some sort of effort. Not really a fan of this generation X5 tho.

  • It is a little faster with a manual transmission - you can rev it to redline. I use mine to tow a 3500 lb travel trailer and I find myself pulling away from people at stop lights - with the trailer. They don't see the trailer and when I start to pass them, they get all pissed off. It's like dude, I'm passing you, towing a trailer for chissakes! ;). Gas mileage is about 20 mpg average, 22 on the highway. 15 around town or towing the trailer. not a bad car - the 3.0 is indestructible.

  • @robertplattbell1 I love BMW Inline 6 Cyl engines but this just wasnt a proper combo for such a heavy vehicle.. The MT would wake it up a tad but just a tad lol.

  • ummm...why is it short shifting?

  • @ostreds Actually it was the local speed limit which was around 45. I just gunned it in 1st & relieved through 2nd. Either way the regular 3.0i just isnt powerful enough to quickly move this body. Even a 1st generation highlander V6 raped me at a traffic light on a merging lane lol

  • Great sound! What did you use to edit?

  • The last 2 videos I uploaded were done with a new iPod Nano which now comes with a video camera. The resolution is a low 640 X 480 but it records with great clarity. The Sound is rather flat and Mono. I edit with iMovie HD from iLife 06 for Mac. I adjust the sound with an equalizer and I take off some of the treble to remove some of the hiss, Added Bass and Mids. Then added a refurb effect ((PLATE)) which gives it stereo sound. Then Encoded at 1280 X 720 16:9 Resolution @ highest quality.

  • @robertplattbell1 True, how the times have changed.

  • @1bentley4ever You can buy the same engine, with dual turbochargers, cranking out 300 bhp, in the 3-series and even 1-series. Only a few years ago, 300 HP was considered "M" territory. Today, it is available in standard trim.

  • @Intechdude300 Bear in mind also that with dual VANOS the real power doesn't start until at least 3,000 rpm and doesn't really kick until 4,500 rpm. The beauty of a BMW engine is that it will lump along at low RPM while cruising and when you want more power, you just rev the snot out of it. Towing the trailer, if it drops below 3,000 rpm, it just dogs. You need to shift it higher to get any serious acceleration out of it.

  • @Intechdude300 Well, it isn't as fast as my M Roadster, but it gets there. I bought it so I would have something to haul the dog around in. Works good for that. Sporty SUV is an oxymoron, IMHO. With the sport package, it handles remarkably well....for an SUV.

  • If only that 3.0 was in the 3-series body. :(

If I went for the X5 I would DEFINITELY go for the 3.0 turbodiesel.

  • @iziteze

for my 3.0 it is about 100 bucks and driven without regard for fuel economy (without really flooring it) easily you would get about 400-450 miles on a tank
