Terry Scott was an English actor and comedian who appeared in several 'Carry On' films. He also appeared in a long-running BBC tv sitcom called 'Terry and June'. Terry's novelty record 'My Brother' was written by Mitch Murray and was based on a schoolboy character (he dressed in school uniform to sing it on TV), and the song was very popular on BBC Radio children's request shows for many years. In the 1970s, Terry revived the role in a series of TV commercials for a chocolate snack called Curly Wurly, in which he again dressed up as a schoolboy, complete with short trousers and cap. This copy of My Brother is from a vinyl single which was released in 1962 on the Parlophone label but failed to make a mark in the pop charts - despite its popularity on the radio. Sadly, Terry died of cancer in 1994 at the age of 67, but his film roles, and this song, still survive to keep us smiling.

  • I seem to remember there were sound effects on this record just before he sings 'My Brother'.

Or is my memory playing tricks?

  • @corringhamlad

That might have been 'Right Said Fred' which had a similar tune?
