A simple 8 point garbage matte I used to dissolve from a younger Anakin Skywalker into the one used in the original trilogy. The cross dissolve reflects the simple techniques they used back in the 70's and 80's rather than a digital morph.

  • In a word, no. Someone who sleighed a tribe of people and then went on to be such a terrible person should not be able to retain his youthful appearance. As for Obi-wan and Yoda, it would make sense but we never see Yoda young so the visual might confuse the audience.

  • If I were Obi-won I'd mad though..."how does this murdering SOB get to be a young ghost, while I'm old and crotchety one?"

  • ahhh, good point

  • this is how its supposed to be, just like in saving private ryan at the end when you see ryan quickly fade into the old man in the begining of the movie. this ending here is just awesome because it shows Luke, and the viewers what Anakin looked like before he chose the dark side and then it faded into what Anakin would have looked like in present time being had he not join the darkside and became darth vader. all in all very good, this is the end of ROTJ that should be on youtube. thisis thebest

  • Very nice. Endings don't get more epic than this. I like that fact it goes from Hayden to Shaw. Would have been better if Obi-wan changed from young to old too. And let's face it, Yoda was never young.

  • I'd rather see James Earl Jones, than either of those other 2 stiffs. In a Universe with sand monsters and talking robots I think those kids could have had a Black Daddy. Michael Jackson did it!

  • Wouldn't it make more sense to reverse it for all three characters?

That way Luke would see the faces he recognises and then they would be all made younger (their prequel versions).

In this take Old Ben and Yoda are standing next to a strange young creepy guy and then he briefly turns into the man he recognises as his father but without his scars.

    It doesn't make sense.

  • Luke changed him back to the person he used to be. Also it would be strange to have the full on suit as a ghost or have him be burnt to a crisp.

  • That's so nice. It's a gorgeous way of paying tribute to both actors, and it's not vitriolic like so much of the "Han shot first" lobby. Bravo.

  • this i like better :) i was wandering if Luke could recognise his younger father in the more recent version... I mean how can Luke know what his father looked like when he was young? The Force maybe?

  • THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD'VE BEEN!

  • c-3po: I"M BUNRING!

  • What they should have done (and what I hope they do in the 2012 release) is have Shaw and Alec Guiness appear as Anakin and Obi Wan before 'morphing' into Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor while Yoda stays the same.
