(Blush) The worst part was she wasn't European, she was Canadian! I didn't know the capitols of my 2 neighbor countries! That depth of ignorance can upset those who feel the most basic data about their beloved nation should be common knowledge. People can feel disrespected if you speak the wrong language to them or don't know what their basic monetary unit is; stuff their children know. Makes it difficult for me because I got lost 1X in my own neighborhood. How would I know their geography?

Well... I'm notoriously bad at geography, and once I was talking to a nice lady who got very upset that I didn't know whether her destination was a city or a province. Turned out it was the capital of her whole country. Oops!
