This Inkscape tutorial demonstrates how to make a shiny heart using a blur and clip technique. The blur and clip technique can be used to create a gradient effect with shapes that do not work well with the gradient tool. Inkscape version 0.48 was used for this video. This tutorial shows tips and tricks that can be useful for beginners as well as all Inkscape users.

  • Love your videos^^ And love the way youre sayin' "blur".

    And thanks for the help^^

  • I finally figured out that i cannot use the select tool to drag around the heart in order to "select everything" rather i must go to Edit - "Select All" and then i am able to use the Clip - Set : )

Again, i really enjoy your videos & appreciate the easy to follow pace you use. Will defiantly watch more & look forward to you continuing to share your skills.

  • @Krowe2020 ~ ps. is there any other way i can get rid of the blur other than Clip & Set? because i have just rebooted my pc & gone through all the steps again and again the Clip/Set will not work. : ( btw ~ Great tutorials!! Really appreciate your time.

  • Bummer I cannot get the Clip - Set to work. Any suggestions? Would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks for the video. Very easy to understand, and I very much appreciate that you take the time to explain what is happening and why.

  • If anyone happens to be looking for what I was looking for, here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to achieve this effect on gimp. Not the same, but you could always import the effected image onto inkscape in the end. wwwDOTscriptolDOTcom/design/gimp/blur-edge.php "Method for a choosen shape"

  • Hi, I'm trying to achieve this effect with a clipped picture. Unfortunately clipped pictures keep their original borders, they just hide part of your cut, so this effect will just work on the original edges. Also I can't seem to use the subtract boolean operation on pictures. So is there anyway around this?

    Thanks

  • thx very much :-*:-*:-*
