Yes, but we don't need to save the planet, we need to save ourselves. Which of course, includes preserving the current state of earth as long as possible. But we don't need to actually *save* it. If we screw up, many species will die, and eventually we will die too. It is highly unlikely that humans will be the last species to die, and as long as there's just a single form of life left, life itself will stay and everything will recover. It's just a matter of self preserveration.

Maybe it's okay for comedy, but actually what he says about the condition of our planet is rot. So do nothing - right? And we'll die before it all becomes a cesspit and rubbish tip. And Carlin DID go away.
