First Finger I ever bought and such a mature, clever, even cautionary song (anyone know the meaning, I get a anti-religious vibe) with some of the best guitar pause and downstroke in the history of rock. What a band! Living in Malaysia now and dreadfully homesick; video was shot in Harrisville I believe. All the best PF fans and keep them coming please. Chris H.
To the store cashiers' credit and my eternal humiliation the guys behind the counter kept insisting I go on: "d'ya know any more lines... how did that last one go again?", and I stupidly persisted with variations of 'there's lump on your breast' and other unorgivable misappropriations until at last it was in my hand, the little CD Single with brown paper cover like a grade 5 history assignment.
1996 and first-year uni: Not having the album nor realising (how did I not?) that it was the Finger, I remember strolling sheepishly into a record store in Indooroopilly and, like a perve in a porn store, waiting until everyone had left to approach the counter and sing a few lines from this amazing song I new had to be Autralian because of the inflection and vowels like a mower through the lawn . TBC
This was the first Finger song i ever heard. I would listen to this on JJJ while driving out to water my mull plants in a state forest. Summer of 95 or 96 or something? I remember thinking "gee these guys are good" - i really liked the melancholy vibe...
superb !!!
