Lee Stripling was born in Alabama in 1921. His father was Charlie Stripling, who played fiddle in the "Stripling Brothers" band, one of the most recorded and most influential string bands of the period. Lee learned a lot of tunes from his father. He joined the Army Air Force in WWII and was stationed in Seattle, WA, where he lived after the war. In the 1990s, he was "discovered" by Seattle's folk and old time music community and had a substantial influence among old time fiddlers in the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere. This tune, "Kennedy Rag," was written by his father and named after Kennedy, Alabama, where the Striplings lived and Lee grew up. This video was taken at a house concert in Seattle in the late 1990s, probably with an old Hi-8 camcorder, which accounts for its low video quality. Lee passed away April 20, 2009. We recorded and issued a CD of Mr. Stripling, Voyager CD 349, which can be found at www.voyagerrecords.com.

Great tune. Wonderful playing. Does the music exist anywhere? Thanks for sharing.
