my 5 week old female java macaque playing with me and my roomate who is video taping.
i hope you enjoy there are not very many pet macaque videos out there!
they are awesome pets for the right highly educated and trained owner!
but for you its probbally not smart
and she loves wrestling and being tickled no harm is being done to this animal whats so ever

I also have traveled extensively, and I have yet to see a road side monkey show on several street corners in any major city of the USA. Most of the "owners" I have seen is in Indonesia, India, etc. Not trying to argue, but the “owners” in the USA pay around $5500.00 for the animal. I’ll be the first to say monkeys are terrible pets, but the majority of captive “pet” monkeys are not in the USA.

Good point. I have lived in the USA (NY) and travelled extensively. I know most Americans are fine people, like any other people (albeit insular and naive).

The sheer greed, selfishness and stupidity of these people made me angry, I wanted to shame them

I think you should research the subject matter further before commenting. There is no such think as a 'pet' monkey in NZ or Australia (has never been legal) and the practice is practically unheard of in Europe.

I will admit that the use of offensive stereotyping eg " typical Americans *is* lazy , unfortunately the image Americans portray to the world quite often isn't a good one:(

@ESCDownUnder I most certainly will not admit that--not because I'm especially defensive, but because it's a completely unverifiable assertion, and doubtlessly untrue. I have seen videos of people speaking every language and variety of English out there (including both Aussie AND Kiwi) playing with their personal monkeys and gibbering inanities into the camera about "their" monkey. ...And--*sigh*--by generalizing. That's the quintessential, poster-child act of intellectual laziness.

You must, however admit that Americans are the ONLY people in the developed world that think primate 'ownership' is an individual right (see current debates).

There are more than 300 million Americans, including nut-job PETA members who would burn down people's homes over this sort of animal treatment, so clearly we run the gamut.
