Driving on the lower grade network this time. The route takes us over an acient 1 digit national roads. These roads do not only connect the capital city's of the provinces like the double digit routes but they also connect the Belgian capital, Brussels with every corner of the country. The numbers radiate clockwise around Brussels. This one is the N2 and that means that the N1 is north of us and the N3 south. The N2 connects Brussels with the Dutch city of Maastricht. Today "the cities" have expanded all over Flanders and so you never get the impression to have left the built up area.
Highways like these are very old and were amongst the first roads built in Belgium. The N1 for example follows the route of a Roman Highway. They're usually as straight as a pencil.
This video will have a sequel in the near future.
