At New Mexicos Pump Canyon, researchers are injecting carbon dioxide (CO2) into the ground.
The effort at Pump Canyon is to take a stream of that CO2 and bury it — permanently — in the New Mexico bedrock 3,000 below ground level. Injection at Pump Canyon began July 31, 2008.

  • What is the point of burying CO2 ? The O in the molecule is Oxygen. Plants must be allowed to break off the C part and give out the O if you want to keep breathing. If you bury CO2 you are burying Oxygen.
