That's what flakes and plugs do: burn slowly. Which is a good thing in the case of yellow Virginia 'cause if it were to burn fast, it would fry your tongue. They also concentrate the flavour: even as light a flake as Baren's Virginia has a rather intense, sweet taste. In the old days there were few flakes in the American market. I can recall smoking Sobranie flake in my youth, which I loved. Watch out for Burley flakes, they can be real heady.
The claw's coming along!

Flakes are definitely a whole other ballgame. But I like them just the same. Really enjoyed the video. Keep em coming.
Hey, nice vid! I enjoy smoking flakes a lot. In one of my recent vids, I show 2 flakes that I enjoy smoking. You do have to play with the flakes a bit, in some pipes the fold and stuff works better, in other pipes rubbing it up a bit does the trick for a nice smoke. Cya

Hi Pipepops :) I always smoke flakes if the tobacco is available in flake ( or plug ) form. Flakes not only burn slower, but give a cooler and a stronger smoke. I like the old University Flake. Got a nice Vitmain N hit and it burns slow. Lovely nutty burley taste and, unlike lots of the American aros, although UF is flavored, the tobacco always takes centre stage. Enjoy matey.

@TamperPeterson Hi Tamper, I tried the university flake last night. It is as you say and I got a bit of a nicotine buz from it. I used the "dub in the damn" fold and stuff method. I think I need to rub out the UF more than I did for that first bowl. Does rubbing it out make it smoke stronger or lighter? Thanks.

@oldpipepops
UF smokes fine rubbed out matey. My father-in-law smokes nothing but UF and he fully rubs out the flakes. I'll be doing a video real soon about how I deal with flakes. I tend not to usually rub them out fully. Depends on the flake and the tobacco moisture though.
Happy Puffing my friend ! :)

@TamperPeterson I'll be looking forward to your video on how you deal with flakes. The fold and stuff method worked well for the virginia flake. The UF seemed to be better with a little more roughing up.
