After 17 years in a refugee camp in SE Nepal, the Rizal family was resettled in Seattle's Rainier Valley in 2008. This story follows the journey of Bhutanese refugees as they leave the camps in route to their new homes in countries around the world, via a transit center in Kathmandu where they get final medical screenings and cultural orientation. The piece originally aired on The Seattle Channel program City Stream. The 2 other segments in a 3 part series connecting Seattle and Nepal can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/lendavis#p/u/11/kGlecZkjTJY & http://www.youtube.com/lendavis#p/u/14/nbMbbL9WUwU

  • hahahha this video made me laugh .I am a Bhutanese and i know what actually happened to lhotsampas. You all started asking for GORKHA LAND what the hell were you all thinking hahahha newaz i have sympathy for u all but the government never told the lhotsampas to leave the country the people who were involved in the movement tc peace and yeah it wasnt 1/6 of the population it was just several thousand not in lacks damn it

  • @rigze1 Please ask yourself if your comment reflects one who acts with compassion toward others. Your information is wrong. "Most of the refugees were received by camps in Nepal which currently have about 103,000 Bhutanese refugees according to UNHCR" en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Bhutanese_refugees

  • @MrSukudev I really appriciate ur noble thought. I alwayz feel sympathey for all you people there. we know that you and your parents are innocent but the problem is innocent people acted actively in few peoples interest and if I tell you some of the story that I happen to see when I was little kid you cannot believe. But anyway I wish you all better life in your near future.

  • @rigze1 You may be one of the agent who leads the government to expel us from \my country

  • And guess what! We're happy to welcome them, with their customs, their couture and their language. More the power to us for embracing cultural diference and acting in a tolerant way. I am proud that I belong to the western world, where different is interesting, not aberrant!

  • We'll say exactly the same things when Buthanese people decide to move and live in a different country. Don't you dare have your own costumes! Want to move to Europe or the US? You will have to behave like an American or a European, or we'll kick you out! Truth is, nobody gives a rat's ass about your puny little country, and the only thing you are known for in the world is that you kicked out people you didn't like, so I don't know what pride you're talking about. I would be embarrased.

  • i dont think they are bhutanese . they are nepalese . so they belong to their motherland nepal . bhutan has been great host for these people for so many generation and what they did in return . they demand gorkha land . if they are true bhutanese why they want to separate their own country by giving name like ghorkha land . the true ghorkha land is nepal . so go to nepal and demand gorkha land there , not in bhutan . bhutan is peaceful country and let us live in peace .
