If you're recording for a long time and making a video, you put your hand over the camera to let yourself know to edit the rest out.

you know what putting your hand in front of the lense is for right?? it's for marking in between the footage, you dont put it in the actual video....

Oohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that makes sense. I've seen people with flash memory camcorders do it though. They use it for looks.
