I'm sure most people who listen to Leonard Cohen have had encounters with past lovers who they still care for very much and who still care for them, but alas they both know that it will never work, which to me, that's exactly what the song is about. Person A loves Person B. Person B loves Person A. They know they can't be together so they have passionate encounters, ones they will always treasure, then go back to living their lives as if nothing has happened.

I so agree with Granny Tenderstone.One verse of a Thousand Kisses Deep is light years ahead of something justin bieber could ever hope to accomplish,yet he sells millions of records.It is like whitebread,devoid of any nutritional content yet it outsells any other kind of bread.Americans are like sheep, so afraid of thinking outside the box .Thank God for my sophmore English(high school)teacher who introduced me to LC.His music is real,honest,sincere and wraps around your soul like a warm blanket
