Scleral Suture Fixation of Posterior Chamber Intraocular Lens

Elderly patient who had cataract surgery several years ago. One year previous to this surgery she fell and ruptured her left eye. Another surgeon repaired the rupture and removed the superior iris. She did not tolerate contact lenses. Her macular edema was treated.
Because she had no support for an anterior chamber or posterior chamber intraocular lens, this lens was sutured behind the iris. This technique allows the knots from the prolene suture securing the intraocular lens to be rotated into the eye. The scleral flap covering the knots, hopefully, reduces the risk of infection after surgery.
