I clipped the tree on the right with my right skid, sending me straight into the tree on the left. The white on the bottom left is the snow on the tree trunk. It crumpled the cowl right up to the engine, but my camera bolted to the front somehow survived!
I was fine, but it took my grandfather a while to repair his sled...

  • Sucks about the snowmobile, at least nobody was hurt.

That looks like a pocket camera (and from the tags, a Kodak Zi8). Pocket cameras are like tanks, nothing destroys 'em. Mine has been through rain, mud, snow, and ice for a year and has only lost one of the tabs on the battery cover. They don't like vibrations though, since it causes the video to become choppy (if you find the correct frequency, you can make everything look wavy, that happens when I mount it to my parent's car lol).

  • @mattbjrs Thanks, I hope to put up some aftermath pics next...

True, they are pretty hardy, when I got back to the house it slipped out of my jacket pocket, over the stairs 5ft down onto the concrete garage floor and was undamaged...

The digital image stabilization is to be left off at all costs, I discovered, it amplifies the waviness to the point of being unwatchable!

  • @thekiwicanuck Ah, that's right, I forgot the Kodak model has digital stabilization. My Creative model doesn't have that feature. Doesn't it also have a macro mode where it can change focus to close objects? I saw that on one of their cameras and was jealous lol. And yeah the battery cover tab came off of mine when it fell off my bicycle onto concrete but other than that it wasn't damaged. I have improved the duct-tape mount since then.

  • @mattbjrs Yes that's correct about the macro, not that I use it very often. I bought a suction-cup mount specifically for this trip, but it wouldn't stick to the plastic on the sled, so we pulled the mount apart and put a bolt through it and the bumper. The suction cup sticks fine to my car but the arm is too long and jiggly, so I've ended up using a elastic tie-down strap wrapped around the passenger's headrest a few times, and braced the seat, and now its pretty steady!

  • nice way to spend christmas day ae

  • @tecra700ct Snowmobiling, yeah. Apologizing, no!
