Back in those days pros using 35mm cameras were using the same format, so as long as you use a compact with a good lens with a good film followed by use of a good lab, you're going to get much the same results. These days digital compacts have MUCH smaller sensors than DSLRs so you will get sub standard results.

You misspelled "genius", clearly not a good judge of genius.

The person behind the camera only controls the artistic quality of the photo, I was talking only about the image quality.

Sensors in most digi compacts are often 25x smaller than a single frame of film or maybe even smaller, so no matter how good the sensor is at that rate of enlargement the sensor is not the weakest link. However many film compacts will the negate their advantage because of crappy, film, lenses, processing or users.

Not fully true. Smaller sensors, yes. Sub standard results, not always. Actually, more often than not, they're on par with each other (dslr & compact). Its all about the person behind the camera.

What Terry has is devoid in 98% of photographers in the world. Social skills.

He makes great pictures by making people feel good. You're never going to look good if you don't feel good.

I forgot to say that he also uses big digital and film cameras, see the Britney and Gaga shootings.

@stevenstreet483 not completely true. Timing, framing, ideas, attitude, directing is as important. Many catalog photographers have all those elements you named and make ordinary pictures. Fashion is a multi billion industry, give that people some credit too.
