This certainly doesn't sound bad, but I definitely prefer the Marvin Gaye version, primarily due to more brilliant production. The bassline is great, regardless, but it was used in such a haunting manner in the Gaye version. And that overall haunting feel wins the song over for me. Nonetheless, great composition.
love jamersons bass break on reach out i'll be there ......I also love his bass line on I cant get next to you .........or is that Babbit ?...........anyone knows for sure let me know
It's very difficult to choose a "best" Jamerson. He was truly the man. I'm workin on What's Goin On bassline - a masterpiece. Bernadette, by the Four Tops is fabulous, and don't forget Darling Dear by the Jackson 5. Can't make up my mind.
This is the first version of this song that was released. The Marvin Gaye version was recorded first, but received a lukewarm response from Motown. Producer Norman Whitfield decided to record & release this version, & its success paved the way for Gaye's version. Motown gave in & the rest is history...my favorite version. Jamerson was the man.
I've always thought that this was one of Jamerson's best all-time performances. Whenever it comes over the car radio, I crank up the bass just like you did for this video.
