John Wayne was a poor actor and his characters were written like generic prescriptions. He literally has nothing of interest in his demeanor. His personification of being such an "all-American" idol is total BS. The man has no personality. -'Just say the same old thing the same old way and sell tickets'. The characters he played were well scripted self righteous robots. -Well, my appointment with my therapist is at 4, so I'm off now.

Wayne as Ghengis Khan , in The Conqueror , in his chinaman drag , seducing Susan Hayward with a smack down, unable to speak in contractions, and with Agnes Moorhead cast as his mother , is one of those surreally entertaining candy - colored cinematic experiences that redefine "bad".
