The President is correct we do need responsibility, accountability, common sense, and comprehensive immigration reform. He is also correct that the federal government has failed its people on this issue. But the president is dead wrong to criticize the Government of Arizona for trying to protect its people with the few resources it has. Unfortunately the basic notion of fairness that we cherish that the President mentioned has already been undermined in this country by the Government allowing people to break the law and live in the United States illegally.
All too often illegal immigrants are held to a lesser standard of the law and society than the American people and those immigrants that are here legally. As an American I have my own social security number, I carry ID on me to prove my identity, I pay taxes and obey the laws of the land. Illegal immigrants broke our laws to get in to the country and continue to do so to remain here. The same way I get in trouble and have to answer for a crime I commit so should they.
I do believe that we need to change our immigration laws. Good people who want to come to the United States and become Americans should have the opportunity to share in Americas promise (however it needs to be in accordance with the law). I understand that the way the laws are now, it makes it to difficult for good people to become Americans and that needs to change. It is important to remember that most hispanic illegal immigrants dont want to be Americans, they just want the benefits of living in the United States. These people should not be allowed to live and work here as long as they like and go back to Mexico when they please. I do not believe that police should have the power to be immigration officers, but they should have the power to uphold our laws; that through the course of their regular police work if it is discovered that someone is breaking our laws they should be able to turn them over to the proper authorities.
Being in a military family I think it is a smack in the face that the president criticizes people trying to protect the country and its laws at a naturalization ceremony for people who obviously diserve to be Americans. I think Obama is intentionally trying to gain credibility, political strength, and a patriotic image by using those soldiers as an example. The president is comparing apples to oranges, law breakers to those who would fight and die to uphold the law of the country they obviously love. For most the freedom and prosperity we enjoy in this country is earned by following the laws, participating in Government, and being good people. However it is necessary that some go above and beyond in service to the country and its people to fight and die to protect us and our freedom. No matter where you were born or your status if you are one of those great people you deserve to live in America more than most and should not be exploited to gain anything, especially politically.
The rights and freedoms of the American people no matter their origin, color, or status must be protected.
ENFORCE the current immigration laws you jackass.
If American was being invaded from Canada by white Russians, you would do something. What the hell is the President and Congress doing by not protecting American citizens from foreign invaders?
The Democrats are a bunch of morons who only care about reelection and not the American Citizens.

@iamavet That is an excellent point. We are constantly being told by the media and other sources that politicians need to have the support of the Hispanic community to get elected in the future. I do believe that democrats in most cases will do whatever it takes to get reelected. I agree with you.

The answer is not Amnesty!

@karlacay Amnesty has never been the answer; its just a way of putting off solving the problem.
