Weekly noon test of one of Dooly County's Whelen outdoor warning sirens, which is part of a system consisting of 7 Hornets and 2 Vortexes. This is the Hornet in the town of Pinehurst, and is the only siren in town. The siren does a one-minute alert tone for the test.

  • Does Whelen still make the Hornet?

  • @sirenfan97 Yep, is a matter of fact I've recently seen a brand new one installed up in Calhoun, GA. They also still make the old belt-driven rotator specifically for these too, since it's cheaper to make those than use the gear-driven one for the Vortex, and also for the sake that this little tiny speaker doesn't need something that hefty to turn it.

  • Yes! Another hornet video on Youtube! Great call ian! So, hows the heat down there? lol

  • @lildil39485 Too damn hot, cut the heater down a notch will ya! LOL

  • @Oldiesmann Yep, that sounds about right too. I saw the one in Lilly (also in Dooly County) on the ground once during a pole replacement, and it kind of took me by surprise with its size; thought it would be a little smaller than it is. The height dimension is with the rotator though, but the speaker is around 2ft in diameter.

  • @MrTornadoman2 Fairly small. According to Whelen, 41 inches high, 30.5 inches wide and 23 inches deep.

  • @MrSciencetificsasuke i like them because there cool looking, but its hard to find the diffrence between a 4004 and a vortex. unless theyre the same things

  • love it! youtube definitely needs more hornet vids!

  • They shoud mount six of them on an old refrigerator door and call it the HEOWS

  • nice video again, ian! the Hornet somewhat looks like the top of a Banshee flipped on its side, lol.
