This is my audition for Parelli Natural Horsemanship, Level 2 Freestyle riding. I am riding my horse in a natural rope hackamore with mecate reins and a bareback pad. You will notice that I don't have stirrups. For the audition, we had to combine various Parelli games and patterns into a unique sequence. There are some required moves, but the rest was up to me. My horse is a 17-year-old Shire-cross gelding. He is 15.1 hh and is actually owned by the UK's horse rescue charity HAPPA (Horse and Pony Protection Association) - http://www.happa.org.uk/. He is on life-time loan to me and is a brilliant horse. It is believed that he has had a fairly tough working life, pulling carts in towns etc and this has taken its toll on his health. He has some arthritis and has to be exercised carefully. This includes gentle riding. In Parelli terms, I would assess his 'horseanality' as Left Brain Introvert (LBI). This means that he has 'more woah than go'. He can act disinterested or unmotivated. Unless you know how to approach him, he will become non-responsive until you give up whatever you are asking him to do. An LBI needs interesting new challenges and games to keep him motivated. He has a great deal of 'opposition reflex' to steady pressure. He is happier yielding his hindquarters than he is yielding his forequarters. This boy loves going to and touching objects (with his nose or feet). Having a 'mission' is the best way to motivate him. The ambient music is "Exodus" by Alexandre Falcao. • Was this the only video you submitted for your level 2 freestyle?

  • @lbiparelli, yes it was. There was also a Level 2 Online video. Thanks for being interested :-)

  • Great audition! Your horse really trusts you. :) I saw he offered a lot.. BTW: I was looking over the audition self assessment sheets and for the circling game you have to circle at the walk and trot, was that is this video or is there a part 2?

  • @lbiparelli thanks for your kind feedback. In terms of the Circling Game, you are quite right that you do have to show walk and trot, but this video was for L2 Freestyle and the Circling Game is in the L2 Online audition. My L2 Online is also on YouTube, with my other horse. In that, I do the Circling Game required tasks. If you are thinking about submitting an audition, I hope it goes really well :-)

  • Hi tiapaquette, thanks for the nice comment. The words on the video are part of You Tube and they're called 'annotations'. Thanks again!

  • great movie! such a pretty horse:) I love natural horsemanship and it has done so much for me and my horse! I am wanting to start parelli but I am not sure if I can afford it!!! When you are a savvy member, how much does an online audition cost??? thanks! awesome horse=)

  • Thanks for the nice comment! I think that an audition costs UK£ 25...so around US$ 39. In terms of affording Parelli, there are lots of free videos, documents and forums online. Genuine Parelli equipment is usually better quality than the copies. I particuarly recommend that you get genuine Parelli rope lines, as the 'feel' is superior. There are many decent carrot sticks/training sticks available. If you can't initially buy a natural hackamore, you can ride in your halter and line.

  • Love your Shire cross!!! Great audition! so how did you get those words on the video?

  • @OvertTrousers awesome thank you!!! yep christmas and birthday:) It's just that I'm 14 and paying for everything with my horse myself but it's so worth it! free videos??? where? Yep my arab gelding actually responds better in a halter than he does in a bridle!!! He was abused when I got him and has come so far! How long did it take you and your horse to get there?

  • You have to buy an audition online at the Parelli web site. It used to be in the 'shop' section, but they have recently re-designed the web site and I have not looked in the last couple of months. Once you have paid for the audition, you have to download the application forms from the Parelli Savvy Club web site, video your audion and submit the forms (you can scan and email them, if you want). To buy and submit an audition, you have to be a current member of the Savvy Club. Hope this helps.
