Ernest Farino, VFX Supervisor here-- "noise in space" sound effects were not used at first. Tom Hanks, big fan of "2001," was striving for accuracy, and originally the space shots were silent. But unlike "2001" where it worked as a style, in the context of this show, the sequences just went dead, to a distracting degree. Even Dave Scott agreed. So, that was one of the few conscious decisions made under the umbrella of "dramatic license." Even so, the sound FX were kept as subtle as possible.
One sentence on the Apollo missions. They were REAL.
On the series. I bought it on VHS soon after it was so badly transmitted by CH4 in the UK [thanks CH4 for making almost everyone miss it]. It was a brilliant series, but I have two criticisms. 1] There were too many smiley reactions shots. People would have just been working. And 2] oh dear, why is there external rocket noise and body moving noise in Space..? I bet Dave Scott kicked up a stink about that. But they never mentioned it here.
You're darn right. The moon landings were all completely fake. The Spanish government faked that landing by Columbus, too. He never landed in the western hemisphere.
Excuse me, Muslims, but your tinfoil hat is starting to slip off.
The Moon landings did happen, of that I have no doubt. For if the Russians believed for one second that those landings were fake they would've called us out on it. The evidence to prove that they did in fact take place is overwhelming. Also, as mpgingdl wrote, the special effects technology back then just didn't exist, & authenticated moon rocks were brought back to prove definitively that such a journey did happen. Then you've the 400,000 people that took part in that massive under-taking.
Given the state of special-effects technology in the late 60s and early 70s, how could NASA have possibly faked the moon missions? it would have been easier to fly the missions for real than to fake them.
If indeed they were fake, I'll believe it as soon as I hear it from the people who where the most intimately involved with them: the astronauts, the flight controllers, the technicians who assembled. checked out, and launched the spacecraft, the people on the tracking network, etc.
watching the intro of this video (not the From earth to the moon intro) if i had never seen from earth to the moon before i would of closed my browser but otherwise thanks for the upload
