I own nothing.
''Really? What do you need to ask me?'' Becca squeaked, an octave higher than usual. ''Well, I was just wondering if. . .uh. . .you wanted to get a taco. . .?'' Derek said, nervous.
''Or a burrito. You know, it doesn't really matter, because the taco is 3.99 and so is. . .'' He cleared his throat. ''So is the burrito.'' He said softly. ''Uh.'' Becca said. ''Yes, of course.
I love tacos.'' She smiled. ''And burritos.'' ''Oh, uh!'' Derek seemed suprised. ''Okay then. Tomorrow?'' ''Tomorrow.'' Becca grinned, then she turned on her heel and walked to me.
''Oh my gosh, Grace, he ASKED ME OUT!'' ''OH MY GOSH!'' I screamed in joy for my best friend.
::LATER:: ::Nate's POV::
''What do you want?'' I said to Grace. ''To be away from you.'' She told me, smirking and pushing away. ''Hey, what's wrong with me?'' I called after her. ''You're you.'' She called
back, but I couldn't see her. She was lost in a sea of people. For someone who had been at school for a week, Derek knew a lot of people. ''Grace!'' I called, but I don't know why.
I hated her. She never answered.
::GRACE'S POV::
I pushed through the crowd to get away from Nathan. I told him to stay away from me at the party. But of course he didn't listen. . .he just
loves bugging me. I shoved past a few more people, surprised that Derek knew this many people. I stumbled into a small opening in the
crowd, to see Becca, standing alone, looking. . .well, lonely. ''What's wrong?'' I yelled over the music. She yelled something back I couldn't
hear. ''The music's too loud!'' I shouted. ''We need to get somewhere more quiet.'' She grabbed my elbow and pulled me upstairs, into Derek's
bedroom. ''Okay. Why do you look sad?'' ''Because this party isn't turning out anything like I expected.'' She sighed, falling backwards onto
Derek's bed. ''What did you expect?'' I asked. ''I expected. . .me and Derek laughing and talking, and by the end of the night we would've
kissed and he would've asked me out.'' ''He did ask you out.'' I reminded her. ''I know!'' She almost shouted, frustrated. Then she took a deep
breath to calm herself down. ''I know.'' She said, calmer. ''But I expected us to be with each other the whole night, but he's. . .other places.
And wouldn't it be weird for me to follow him everywhere like a lovesick puppy, waiting for food?'' She sighed again, shaking her head to
herself. ''You can't blame him for wanting to be with his friends.'' I pointed out. ''I know.'' She said, a hint of frustration creeping back to her
voice. ''But I haven't seen him since he asked me out. It's like. . .ask and run.'' I giggled a little, but she gave me a look that said it wasn't a joke.
''But that doesn't mean you can't try to have fun. The night's still young, you still look great, and we still have a few hours left of this party.''
I told her, grinning. She tried her best to stay mad, like some people do when they're mad, but knew I was right. She broke out into a grin, too.
''You're right, Grace.'' She said, smiling at me. ''Let's go back downstairs. We've got a party to be at.''
::DOWNSTAIRS, GRACE'S POV::
We walked back downstairs. I noticed Becca grimace as we walked passed Derek and his friends. ''We should stop and talk to them.'' I whispered.
''No. . .'' She whispered back, but with no emotion. She knew it was usless. We were going to talk to them. ''Hey, Derek. Having fun?'' I said,
dragging her up to them. ''Yep, definitely.'' Derek said, grinning. ''Hey, Becca.'' Derek said Becca's name rather loud, and his friends giggled a
little. I looked at them, confused. ''Is there something we should know?'' I demanded. ''No.'' He said, stifling a laugh. He snorted a little, but
stopped. ''You're a bad actor.'' I informed him. That's when it all became too much for him, and he burst out laughing. Then he slinked away.
''What's the big deal?'' I asked his friends. ''Don't you know?'' One of his friends said, giggling uncontrolably. ''Derek was just kidding. . .''
Another friend said. ''He doesn't really want to go out for tacos. . .'' They all laughed at the word. ''It was a prank. . .it was all a prank.'' That's
when Grace noticed Becca was gone.
