I made this short video at the request of my friend "playground player," who is a Frank Marshall enthusiast. There's no voice over narration, but there is some live footage of Marshall v. Torre that's taken from the movie "Chess Fever." Although Marshall and Carlos Torre Repetto did play in the Moscow 1925 International Chess Tournament, they are in fact acting during the footage here.

The video then covers Marshall's stunning victory at Cambridge Springs 1904, and concludes with highlights from one of Marshall's brilliancy prize games, this one against Levitsky at Breslau 1912. According to legend, the gallery showered the board with gold pieces after this game.

  • Great video. What's the piece of music that plays right at the start?

  • @combat246 That's the opening of "Pie Jesu" by Gabriel Faure. Second track is "Ecstasy of Gold" by Ennio Morricone.

  • thanks for the video, that was funny. does anyone know what lasker ment, that he saw in pillsburrys play the birth of a new style??.. ps i hope you make a vid (if it was you) again, like that rossolimo with talk annectodes and commented game tactics. something like that for leonid stein, nezhmetdinov or ragozin or schlechter would be funny... anyway thanks for the effort and work

  • @IBOUGHTYAMOM Thank you for taking the time to post such an encouraging comment- yes, there will be a full length video biography of Rashid Nezhmetdinov next, but it might take another two months to finish making.
